Charity for our feelings
of wellbeing
Charity nowadays is becoming a
really meaningful thing in our everyday social life and especially for the poor
ones. In life everyone has its ups and downs and when you have hit your rock
bottom, you might receive charity from others. So mainly I want to answer two
questions, first of what is charity, second of how we should use charity in our
daily social life.
Nowadays we are often involved in
charity on daily basis, and frankly it’s growing to be a big and meaningful
part of our life. There are many ways how we take part in charity, but we will
discuss this later on. Now I want to write about a kind of charity where we
donate stuff or money to people who are in need. I guess it’s very good feeling
to make someone happy by doing just so little, like giving away clothes you won’t
wear any more or donate some money that you have forgotten in your pocket. Well,
to be honest, that meaningful feeling is only for a short period of time. So I
guess to make this feeling last much longer you need to donate more stuff. And
if I do this, I wonder where this is going to lead me in a long run. I expect
nowhere good, also my good feelings will be long gone and I will end up broke,
just to make me feel good. To sum this all up, you can’t materially help everyone
who needs it just to make yourself feel a little better.
When you have hit rock bottom in
life, there is this hard feeling of shame, stress and so on, it becomes hard to
ask someone for help. In spite of that there will always be someone willingly
wanting to help you out by charity or donations. They do this because it makes
them feel good. In my opinion it’s a two-way street: the one who gives help, feels
good in this case and the other person feels bad because he feels he owes
everything to a person who helped him out.
In my opinion, charity is both giving
and receiving. You can give others anything you have got, starting with money,
clothes, old machines and ending with your free time, a nice smile or a
friendly hug on a bad day. So it’s very easy to answer a question how we should
use charity in our daily social life and make the feelings meaningful. We just
need to start with supporting poor people more often with friendly gestures,
like hugs, smile or friendly handshake. Also we can support them by donating
our free time to them or others, like helping out in any way possible.
In conclusion I can say that charity
can make anyone happy, both the giver and receiver at the same time. You can
start charity right now and it won’t cost you a dime, just give a friendly
smile to someone who needs it and you both will feel a little bit better. And the
best part is that you can’t run out of smiles.
